Thames Hospice is the local charity providing expert care for people living with life-limiting illnesses in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.
A vital part of our work is also supporting their families and carers. We are now based at our new hospice at Bray Lake which has 28 beds. We require £12 million per year to run.
Our shop in Wokingham provides vital fundraising help to what we do. We are currently looking for volunteers to help on Fridays and/or Saturdays, helping and serving customers, sorting through donations and keeping the shop colourful.
Pop into our store or give us a call.
Wokingham Job Support Centre is looking for a Volunteer Advisor.
We are a registered charity who provide free and confidential support to job seekers in Wokingham and Bracknell Forest. We are looking for Volunteer Advisors.
The role will involve advising and assisting job seekers on a one to one basis with all activities involved in finding a new position. Specifically working on CV writing, interview skills, search strategy, form filling, and use of IT for social media, search, e-mail and word processing. Helping to build and maintain client confidence.
The requirement is for one two-hour regular shift weekly with the possible opportunity to run workshops as well.
The volunteer will need an understanding of the needs and concerns of job seekers. Recent experience in a related field – e.g. recruitment and selection, mentoring – desirable but not essential, as is knowledge of social media, effective interpersonal, listening and communication skills, organisational and planning ability, use of IT.
Objectivity, sensitivity, integrity, initiative and assertiveness all required in the role.
SAFE (Saving Abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines) are looking for hardworking volunteers to help care for our horses and ponies. Shift times are currently 9am-1pm and 3pm-7pm but these vary throughout the year and have a degree of flexibility.
We are looking for over 18s with their own transport as we are split across several sites in and around Wokingham/Reading that aren’t easily accessible by public transport.
We would love you to be able to commit to at least one regular shift a week so that you can get to know your shift colleagues, the routine and the horses too. Basic tasks are feeding, hay, water, mucking out and general horse care but there are many other things involved too.
The horses at SAFE come from severely neglected backgrounds but with the help of our wonderful vets and the care, love and attention from our volunteers they slowly learn to trust humans again. Watching their progress is highly rewarding.
If you’d like to become part of a friendly, hardworking and determined team and participate in the free exercise but go away feeling rewarded then please send me a personal message and I will then be able to arrange an induction to introduce you to SAFE, the horses and the health and safety of the rescue.
In additional to the hands on volunteering SAFE are also looking for volunteers that would be interested in helping with Fundraising, PR/Marketing and a treasurer.
We also have a small maintenance team that can always do with a hand too as you can imagine with around 30 horses currently in our care there is always lots to do.
If you are interested in any of the roles above or to find out more about volunteering in general, please get in touch – [email protected] or call 0118 977 0749 or visit our website www.volunteerwokinghamborough.org.uk
