Norreys is a target seat for Labour – the party already has a councillor in the ward. With Gregor Murray stepping down, the Conservatives are fielding a new challenger candidate. And the Lib Dems will be eyeing the seat up as well.
However, with voting close in previous elections, it is hard to predict who will win this seat.

The candidates
Matteo Fumagalli, Lib Dem

Originally from Italy, I moved to the UK nine years ago and to Wokingham in 2017.
I work for a university in London as a research scientist.
I am standing for election in Norreys where I have had the privilege of serving as Town Councillor for the past four years.
If elected to the Borough Council, I shall continue to advocate for inclusivity and sustainability in all that the council does.
Mike Townend, Conservative

My wife and I live here in Norreys ward and we run an estate agents in the town centre.
I have been a school governor, Reading Buses director and am currently an ambassador for the Children’s Air Ambulance.
I’ve been thrilled to see the way the town centre has been transformed over the last ten years. Like most residents, I was delighted that the Conservative regeneration plans have delivered exactly what local people said they wanted to make Wokingham a wonderful town. And the new Carnival Leisure Centre is fantastic!
I was motivated to run for election by the shocking decisions of the ruling Lib Dem/Labour coalition. This coalition-run council is cutting services like weekly bin collections and charging far more for parking.
I’m concerned about the impact on local businesses as the huge car park fee increases will mean that shops and restaurants in town will struggle to compete with those outside the town centre with free car parks.
Many local residents share my concern about the state of the roads in Wokingham. If elected, I’d ensure more roads would be resurfaced and fix the many potholes.
