Businesses at California crossroads have issued a call to remind residents that they remain open whilst the roadworks are taking place.
Jayesh Mistry, owner of Jats Pharmacy, said he’d noticed a considerable decline in footfall since the start of the roadworks.
He said: “One thing Wokingham Borough Council could do to help is to look at reducing business rates for us, and other businesses here, for the duration of the roadworks.”
Although he said he’d yet to meet anyone in favour of the work, he was extremely complimentary of the team of construction workers, and particularly the site foreman who has been keeping him updated on a daily basis.
Londis has also seen a substantial decline in business in the two weeks since work began.
A spokesperson said that takings were down by as much as 80%.
Creswells Garage had previously advised its customers that it was open and operating with full services.
The long-established family business said: “The contractors have said there will be access to both sides but this may be restricted at times.”
Businesses at the crossroads reminded people they are still open and accessible, and urged local residents to make the extra effort to use their services during the roadworks.
