Police say they are closely monitoring a social media trend that appears to encourage young people to gather and start fights, after several posts referenced schools in the Reading area.
Officers said the posts have caused concern among local communities, prompting increased patrols in parts of the town.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they will have a heightened presence around several locations across Reading, including schools mentioned in the online posts. Reassurance patrols are being carried out and contingency plans have also been put in place should they be required.
The force said it is taking the issue “incredibly seriously” and is working with partner organisations while conducting intelligence checks into the claims circulating online.
Police added that any incidents reported to them will be investigated.
Officers stressed that the trend is not linked to any ongoing investigations.
Anyone with concerns is urged to contact police, while people witnessing a crime in progress should call 999.
