Where to watch England v Sweden in Wokingham borough

Enjoying watching England V Russia at the Euro 2016 in Wokingham pubs

England take on Sweden in the World Cup quarter final tomorrow at 3pm and millions of people are expected to watch the game.

Many of the borough’s pubs, clubs and venues will be showing the exploits of Gareth Southgate’s side as they look to reach the semi-finals for the first time since Italia 1990.

If they’re successful, they’ll play again at 7pm on Wednesday.

Here’s where you can see it on a big screen across the borough….

The Red Lion

The Red Lion is a lively Pad-Thai venue at the weekends and Saturday’s game is sure to be no exception – and children will be welcome too.

The Crispin

Winner of the recent CAMRA cider pub of the year award, The Crispin will be showing the game on its big screens.

The Duke’s Head

Families will be welcomed to The Duke’s Head, opposite Wokingham Library.

The Raglan

The Raglan in Denmark Street will be  putting on family-friendly showings. And if you stick around, their resident Saturday night DJ, Norman LP Bates will be throwing some tunes.

The Ship Inn

The Ship Inn, at the bottom of Peach Street, has some outdoor screens (and yes, they’re covered). The pub advises footy enthusiasts to arrive early as the venue is expected to get busy during their family-friendly broadcast. Previous matches have been standing room only.

The Redan

As well as showing the game, The Redan is holding its Rocktail music festival tomorrow, with live music from Rose Diamonds, Al Green and Haggy Spesh’s UK Bangers, The Final Clause of Tacitus, The Something Duo, King Knit and Rain Crew. Yes, they will all be playing on the day. The Redan’s Roctail festival marks its 12th anniversary, and with its name it should come as no surprise that cocktails will be served with the rock music.

The Broad Street Tavern

Families will be welcome to enjoy the England game on the big screen in Broad Street Tavern’s beer garden.  The pub also has some big screens inside meaning that no one need miss out on the action. It is also serving a special World Cup ale.

The Victoria Arms

The Victoria Arms in Easthampstead Road will be showing the game, but recommend that parents avoid bringing their children along.

The Roebuck

The historic Market Place pub will be screening the game in its cool surroundings, ideal for a hot day.

The Queen’s Head

It will be standing room only on The Terrace as fans flock to The Queen’s Head to watch the game in the historic inn. And for those who don’t enjoy the football, they can enjoy a sunny afternoon in its beer garden.

The Hope and Anchor

Win or lose, the party won’t end for those who are at The Hope and Anchor tomorrow afternoon. The pub, which boasts its own secret garden, will have live music in the evening. The guest band this week is Bricks Build Houses, a firm favourite with its audiences.

The Station Tap

Recently opened, this is The Station Tap’s first big football tournament. It has more big screens than its predecessor, the Molly Millar, had and the and the pub is open to beer tower bookings for those who wish to bring some friends along.

The Two Poplars

Away from the town centre, the Two Poplars on Easthampstead Road will be showing the match for people of all ages to enjoy.

The Bull at Barkham

The Bull at Barkham also encourages families to come along and enjoy the quarter finals in their beautiful countryside setting.

The Three Frogs

The Three Frogs on London Road has been celebrating the tournament with limited edition burgers and a special mix and match bottle deal – tomorrow’s game will be complemented by a barbeque in the beer garden.

The Rifle Volunteer

The Rifle Volunteer will be honouring the occasion on Reading Road with a barbeque and boasts plenty of large TV screens for sport – it’s always a popular pub with its regulars for the big occasions.

The Emmbrook Inn

Jumbo hot dogs are promised to football fans wanting to watch the game on The Emmbrook Inn’s big screens. And regulars know there’s a great camaraderie there too.

The Pheasant Inn

The Winnersh-based Pheasant Inn is opposite the large Sainsbury’s supermarket, and the pub says it will welcome children and adults alike for their showing of the big game. Handy for anyone looking to get out of the weekly food shop.

The Dog & Duck

Families will be welcomed at the newly renovated Dog & Duck in Emmbrook. The pub has a varied menu, including pizza, and a gorgeous beer garden, as well as showing the football on its screens.

The White Horse

A big screen has been set up in the pub’s beer garden and the barbecue will be on for visitors to The White Horse on Easthampstead Road. Family-friendly, it has been standing room only for previous England games.

 

 

Binfield

The Binfield Club

Members and guests will be welcome to come along and enjoy the game on one of four screens.

The Victoria Arms

The Terrace Road North pub has two big screen and one in a marquee outside. Families welcome, food will be available.

 


WOODLEY

The Chequers

Woodley’s Town Centre pub will be showing the game on its big screen – it’s going to be packed with England fans wanting to cheer on the side as they take on Sweden.

The Bull and Chequers

The Bull and Chequers on Church Road has a large beer garden and screens for the England game – it’s quite the sporting fan’s pub and it has been packed for previous England matches.

The Good Companions

Families will be welcome at The Good Companions, Loddon Bridge Road – and for those who find the football too much, it has an outdoor play area.

The Waterside

The Waterside on Fairwater Drive will be showing the match. It has set up big screens in its beer garden, and is also welcoming families.

 

EARLEY

Earley Home Guard Social Club

During the England group games the club reduced pump beer prices for members by £1 per pint for the duration of the game and half-an-hour either side. And they’re promising that as England progress through the tournament bar prices will reflect the success by reducing even more!

The Earley Retreat

The Earley Retreat will be offering lager, cider and burgers to keep fans going as they watch tomorrow’s match – families are welcome and plenty of food is available for the children.

The Seven Red Roses

The Seven Red Roses, tucked away in Maiden Place, will also be broadcasting the game for all ages to enjoy.

TWYFORD area

The Waggon and Horses

The pub hopes to comfortably accommodate England supporters tomorrow in their large beer garden – with a barbecue to boot – and parents can bring their children along too.

 

The Duke of Wellington

The Duke will have an outside bottle bar with a range of lagers and ciders to speed things up. The Twyford High Street pub will have additional till system in place, and the team are promising that waiting times will be dramatically reduced, ensuring there’s none of that ‘going to the bar and missing the goal’ moment.

And the pub will have a barbecue cooking as well.

The Golden Cross

The pub has been showing England games throughout the World Cup and tomorrow is no exception. However, the pub has limited capacity and advise that customers should get there early to ensure that they can see the game. 

The Elephant and Castle

The Hurst pub on Lodge Road will also welcome spectators and there’s a kids play area too, but reminds patrons that children will not be allowed in the front bar.

Fans won’t be able to watch the match at the Horse and Groom.

WARGRAVE

Locals can enjoy the football at the Greyhound on High Street – the pub has three screens, including one in the garden. The St George and Dragon will not be broadcasting the game.
