MOVING Winnersh’s allotments was queried by Cllr Rachelle Shepherd-DuBey at the Executive meeting held on Thursday, October 26.
She asked Cllr Norman Jorgensen: “What made you think that asking to move the allotments to a new site in June was a good idea when it’s right in the middle of the growing season and the new allotments are not even built yet?”
She also queried the move as permission had not yet been granted to build the relief road bridge that will go on the site when the current allotments are situated.
Cllr Jorgensen confirmed that new allotments would be ready for summer next year but added: “The existing allotment holders will not be required to leave their existing allotments until at least autumn 2018.
“The council has planned for this overlap in order to minimise the disruption current allotment holders.”
