Concerns have been raised by residents of a Winnersh road after a plot of land close to their homes was listed at a forthcoming auction.
The land, adjacent to Green Lane and Reading Road and south of the M4, is described as a freehold parcel of woodland, measuring 2.45 acres. It is being sold with a guide price of £10,000 plus fees.
Auctioneers Pugh added that the plot, which is set to come under the hammer later this month, may be suitable for amenity use subject to obtaining the necessary consents.
A worried resident of Green Lane contacted Wokingham Today to express concerns about the sale, and questioning whether trees on the plot which are the subject of tree protection orders, will be safe.
“What are the chances of this plot of land being granted planning permission for building,” the resident asked.
Concerns were also expressed that should planning permission ever be granted on the site, it could lead to much wider development in the vicinity.
Investigations by Wokingham Today revealed the land is currently owned by National Highways, and may have once been identified as a possible location for an exit off the adjacent M4.
The land also appears to be the site of the former Bearwood rectory, and has been the subject of numerous planning applications dating back to the 1950s.
