YOUNG chefs had their own culinary challenge earlier this month after they were tasked with cooking pancakes for a mayor.
Borough mayor Cllr John Kaiser visited The Rainbow Cafe in the Acorn Community Centre at Woosehill on Shrove Tuesday – March 5 — to enjoy a tasty treat.
Fillings included banoffee and chocolate were on offer for the event, which saw the team make enough pancakes to feed 30.
The event enabled Optalis’ Supported Employment customers gain valuable catering and customer service skills as part of a programme that aims to help people achieve paid employment.
Donna Morgans, Optalis’ Supported Employment Service Manager, said: “This has been all about building SES customers’ confidence. They were able to prepare and cook food in a professional kitchen and deal with the kind of pressures that arise in a working environment such as conflicting priorities and the need to be flexible.”
And the mayor enjoyed his feast.
He said: “My traditional pancake was very nice.
“It was lovely to see so many of the local community coming along to support the chefs. This is the second supported employment event I have been to here and it was nice to meet some old friends.”
