CHILDREN’S authors are gathering in Wokingham to share their books and creative writing processes with budding young scribes.
Wokingham Children’s Book Festival brings 13 events to the town hall, leisure centre, and library.
Youngsters can meet their favourite authors, learn more about how to create characters and take part in drawing activities during the weekend of October 14 and 15.
Some workshops are followed by a book signing, and all sessions are interactive and family-friendly.
The writers can be seen at the following venues:
Saturday, October 14 – Wokingham Library
10am – Nick Sharratt, illustrator for Julia Donaldson and Michael Rosen promises a giggly time as he talks about his drawings.
For ages three to seven.
Sunday, October 15 – Wokingham Town Hall
9.45am – Holly Webb
Tilehurst author, talks about the animals in her books. For ages five to nine.
11.15am – Georgia Byng
Her fun talk will cover monsters and hypnotic children, as she helps youngsters to find out more about writing. For seven to 12 year olds.
1.30pm – Iszi Lawrence
The writer of Blackbeard’s Treasure, will talk about the real pirates of the Caribbean. Suitable for ages seven to 12.
3pm – Nizrana Farook
The author of The Girl Who Stole An Elephant, shares the natural world in her stories. Age range: seven to 12 years.
Sunday, October 15 – Wokingham Library
10am – Ally Sherrick
The author of Vita And The Gladiator, will cover horror, mystery and adventure in her talk for ages eight and upwards.
10.15am – James Carter
Something of a mad scientist. he will give a buzzy, interactive talk for youngsters aged six to 11 years.
11.30am – Zanna Davidson
She will speak about child inventors and encourage youngsters to come up with their own amazing inventions. Her talk is for four to seven year olds.
11.45am – Gareth P Jones
He will help his audience plot the story, play the suspects, discover the clues and solve the mystery. For six to 11 year olds
1.15pm – Jane Elson
The author of Storm Horse ties together the stories of two boys living in different times. Her session is for nine to 13 year olds.
1.45pm – Fiona Barker
The writer of Fox’s Favourite Autumn, will lead a session with storytelling, singing and craft for three to seven year olds.
2.45pm – Clare Bevan
She offers plenty of fun at her talk, when she will be using all sorts of sounds and strange characters, including a three- headed dog. For ages seven to 11.
3.15pm – Rikin Parekh
The designer of monsters for the film industry, and illustrator, will talk about how he draws characters and animals. Suitable for children of five to eight years.
