Community Sports Coach of the Year, sponsored by Maison Estate Agency
Winner: Kevin McGill
This year’s Community Sports Coach of the Year, sponsored by Maison Estate Agency was awarded to Kevin McGill from Ashridge Park FC.
The awards recognises Kevin who has made an exceptional contribution in youth grassroots football for several years.
Having coached his son’s team, which finished at U18s level, Kevin decided to volunteer to run the local Soccer School which takes place at St Cripsins every Saturday at 9am.
“When I learnt that I had been nominated, I got quite emotional,” said Kevin.
“Yuo don’t go into these things to win awards. I’ve been running football teams for about 30 years on and off.
“It’s about putting something back into the game, I enjoy it.”
Kevin was praised for his hard work and enthusiasm as he gives kids a chance to enjoy playing football, to learn new skills and to socialise.
Kevin continued: “First of all we just teach the kids firstly how to kick the ball and get a bit of confidence.
“The idea is to get enough kids to form a team as they go into Year 2.
“Ashridge has a great community ethos and organises things in the right way. We don’t allow anyone to get too excited as you see all the problems with people shouting at referees.
“It’s a really well run club and is so welcoming.”
