A community champion has moved on to pastures new and will be “very much missed”.
Three years ago, Mother Julie Mintern arrived at St Paul’s Church in Reading Road, Wokingham as a curate. Now she is settling into a new parish in West Berkshire as a vicar – she will be installed in Lambourn at a special service which will be held on Monday, July 29.
To mark her departure, St Paul’s held a special service last month.
Father Richard Lamey, the priest-in-charge at the busy church, said: “She made a huge contribution to the parish and also to the town of Wokingham as Mayor’s Chaplain.
“Many people met her through the funerals she took and because of her work in local primary schools.
“She also put together and delivered a very successful course on how to deal well with getting older and thinking about death.
“Her husband Keith was also very involved as a volunteer driver and the organiser of a men’s lunch group which met in the Broad Street Tavern.”
He added: “They will be very much missed, but, even though it is something of a cliché, our loss is very much the people of Lambourn’s gain. We wish them both every joy and blessing in the years to come and as they settle into life in West Berks.”
