WOKINGHAM Borough Council is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month.
It was granted borough status by Her Majesty the Queen in March 2007.
Prior to March 2007, Wokingham was a district council with a chairman as civic head. Since becoming a borough council, Wokingham has had a mayor to chair the council.
The first mayor of the borough council, Cllr Angus Ross said that it was a “privilege to to initiate the process for borough status back in 2007.”
“It was supported by the then Lord Lieutenant, Sir Philip Wroughton, and most of the councillors at the time.
“I believe that having borough status has assisted the standing of the council locally and nationally.”
The Lord Lieutenant serves as the Queen’s representative in the county.
Current mayor, Cllr Keith Baker MBE, said: “It is an honour to represent and support the council, residents and businesses within the borough, particularly on our fifteenth anniversary.”
