Wokingham Primary Schools’ FA U11’s Girls’ District team were able to celebrate what was a remarkable campaign for the side.
The team won both the Surrey Girls’ League and the Southern Counties Girls’ League, both for the first time since the side’s inception in 2018/19.
The Southern Counties title was claimed with a dramatic 2-1 victory away at Woking, who were their closest challengers for top spot.
The team’s top scorer Imogen Helyer smashed in an exceptional 42 goals throughout the season and several of the players are on talent pathways at both Reading FC and Chelsea FC.
The team also found success on a tour to Wales where they beat Cardiff and Swansea.
Team manager Carl McGlone said: “The team are so together and I know each of them have made lifelong friends representing Wokingham this season.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to provide our primary aged girls with a unique platform in which to compete against the very best players and teams across the country.
“Whilst we are a relatively small borough, the interest and ability in girls football is strong.
“Following the success of the Lionesses last summer, our trial numbers doubled from the previous year and I’m hoping to see this trend continue in our forthcoming trials.”
