WOKINGHAM & EMMBROOK confirmed their survival witha goaless draw in their last game of the season against Virginia Water.
The game was generally played at the same pace throughout but both sides worked towards arriving in the penalty area.
Dan Collier took the first opportunity after a spell of a headings session around the visitors’ penalty area but he aimed from outside the area with the target in front of him and the track of the ball veering wide.
Sumas took a free kick but another followed up taken by Charley Tuttle who is the man for that job but after some ball chasing by Virginia Water’s defenders and Sumas’ forwards, the visitors escaped from immediate danger.
They made it to the Sumas’ end via the right wing and Johnson in goal had to deal with keeping his eyes open with free kicks and a corner kick
The latter was cleared and Jack Webb broke away down the middle of the field and tried to lob the ball over the head of Jones, goalkeeper for the visitors. Jones claimed the ball denying a goal for Sumas. Josiah Bridgeman attempted an effort for Virginia Water but that sailed harmlessly over Johnson’s cross bar.
A free kick to Sumas put the visitors under pressure although they managed to free themselves back into midfield.
Virginia Water tried to score before hal time but Sumas escaped from defence.
No score in the first half but Joe Cummuskey worked hard in defence to disrupt a breakaway then when that was dealt with Dan Collier was replaced by James Clark.
Bearing down on the Sumas’ defence, Adam McNamara took a wild shot but missed by a long way! Sumas switched Badshah for Mark O’Connell.
Having earlier stopped the ball and cleared it once more, Joe Cummuskey had previously intercepted a move by forwards and was proving his worth in defence. Will Shaw was competing for the ball again and sprinted 50 yards just to keep the ball in play. Another substitution for the Sumas occurred when Ollie Noyes replaced Nathan Mindomba after which Virginia Water took a free kick and Ellis Riley saw yellow as he was booked.
Another free kick went Virginia Water’s way from which a long run along the wing and the shot that passed the face of goal was crucially saved by Johnson at the near post.
A yellow card was shown to the visitor’s skipper, Casey Bocarro while the manager made a double substitution, Blake and Duff.
Sumas’ double substitution for the last 10 minutes sent Woodward and Goodwin on to replace Tuttle and Webb.
The visitors tried hard to break down the Sumas defence but did not succeed as the points were shared.
