So, here it is, Merry Christmas – after 23 days, Wokingham’s Living Advent Calendar came to a close with a celebration of Christmas.
Wokingham Baptist Church was the venue for the finale of this year’s MoreArts event, which has seen a different artistic event take place in Wokingham town centre every day from December 1.
Tonight’s short gathering was hosted by the Revd Nick Hudson, the church’s minister.
A short carol service at the Baptist Church was behind the last door on the Living Advent calendar.
Those attending joined in carol singing including O Little Town of Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, Silent Night, Holy Night and O Come, All Ye Faithful and some readings of the Nativity story.
Wokingham Town deputy mayor Cllr Gwynneth Hewetson caused some laughter when she jokingly referred to the singing duo as Jedward.
Although this is the last event of this year’s Living Advent Calendar, it’s not the end of the story. Every night there has been a collection for three local charities: Macmillian Cancer Support, JAC and Dingley Children’s Centres. The final total is not yet known and we’ll bring you news of how much they’ve raised in the New Year.

Editor’s note: I want to add a quick note of appreciation to my colleagues who have attended every performance at the Living Advent Calendar this year, bringing you a selection of pictures every evening. Over the past 24 days we’ve covered everything from drama to opera, comic songs to carols in venues that have included alleyways, jewellers, barbers and theatres. It’s been fantastic fun to cover this, but without the hard work of Paul King, Vivienne Johnson and Andrew Merritt it would not be possible. Thank you all.
