AS BORIS JOHNSON refuses to resign and ministerial resignations pour in, Wokingham’s MP is asking people what he should do. They included Bracknell MP James Sunderland.
Sir John Redwood has previously said that he makes decisions on votes after listening to his constituents’ views, with the notable exception of Brexit where he feels the electorate know his stance and vote for him accordingly.
In a blog post this morning, coming after more than 50 ministerial resignations from the prime minister’s government, he said that the leadership issue had to be resolved by the Conservatives in Westminster rather than through a general election.
However, he still welcomed views from constituents.
He wrote: “Given the unusual events playing out this week I write this short piece to give people an opportunity to send in their views.
“I am consulting widely on what should now happen.”
He continued: “I am strongly of the view that the issue of leadership has to be resolved by the Conservative Parliamentary party.
“An early General election is not in the national interest.
“We need urgent Ministerial action to promote growth and tackle the cost of living crisis. There is a majority to do what needs doing.”
Sir John doesn’t respond to social media messages and, like all MPs, his inbox is meant for constituents – those living in Wokingham borough – only.
