A WOKINGHAM pub celebrated International Bubble Wrap Day with an ear popping event.
The Queen’s Head in The Terrace wrapped the pub in the plastic protective sheets on Monday, January 29, and encouraged its regulars to enjoy a glass of – what else? – bubbly.
Customers were given hats made out of bubble wrap, and Alfie, the dog of regular Hugh kept warm with a dog blanket also created from the material.
The floor of the pub was layered with bubble wrap which customers could pop as they walked over, while the tables and chairs were also wrapped up.
Landlady Carol Williams said that their participation in the annual day was a bit of fun.
“It’s been a success and people have loved it,” she said.
And the pub’s jukebox was pressed into service for the day.
“We’ve been playing tunes like I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles,” she added.
And while the pub was covered with bubble wrapping, the leftovers will be put to good use – they will help one of its regulars when the move house.
International Bubble Wrap Appreciation day is a celebration of the protective packaging invented in 1957. Although intended to safeguard valuables while in transit, many people find popping the air bubbles very therapeutic.
The CAMRA approved pub is now gearing up to show the Six Nations from this Saturday, it will then hold a Bake Off challenge in April and, later in the summer, will welcome entries for its second chilli cook off.
