On Thursday, June 6, to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, Year 5 at Keep Hatch Primary school were transported back in time to the Second World War and what a wonderful time they had.
Through many different activities we were able to understand what it would be like to be evacuees during the time of war, decode messages like the codebreakers of the time, learn about rationing, understand why we went to war and also to look at the weapons and clothing of the soldiers.
It was a very busy day and the expert, ‘Corporal Harry Smith’, from the company Portals To The Past, was very impressed with the knowledge and behaviour of the children.
The whole day was incredible and the children looked amazing in their costumes with their gas mask boxes and identity tags.
Some children even had teddy bears and suitcases.
