Work on Wokingham town centre regeneration is about to take a step forward as final preparations are made to open two new roads, writes Sabita Burke.
Biscoe Way and Earle Crescent are due to open later this month.
However, the lower section of Elms Road will permanently close, from its junction with Wellington Road up
to The Plaza area by the Nuffield Health gym.
Cllr Philip Mirfin, executive member for regeneration, said: “We are just in the process of agreeing a formal
date, but anticipate this will be by mid-March.
“I’m very pleased to see the new roads open as it means we can start work on digging up the lower section of Elms Road to become part of the open space.
“The new park, with its accessible destination play area, will be a fantastic space for the town and its families and I’m really looking forward to seeing it open later this summer.
“Following the closure of the lower section of Elms Road, there will be no direct access to the remaining section of Elms Road, Ellison Way, Waterford Way and The Plaza from Wellington Road because the western section of Earle Crescent will remain shut while the houses are built along this side of the park.”
