WOKINGHAM suffered a five wicket timed defeat against Thame Town who move to the top of the division after their eighth win of the campaign.
Wokingham batted first and endured a difficult start to their innings as they lost their opening pair cheaply. James Bird fell for just two runs as he was caught out by Michael Beard, bowled Johannes Van Dyk.
Archie Carter (4) followed quickly as he was also caught out to leave Wokingham in a tricky position on 6-2.
After a poor start, Wokingham batted consistently throughout the middle and tail order. Danny Housego and Simon Myles formed a strong pairing at the crease to help the Oaks to recover from their disappointing start to take them over the half century mark.
Myles fell on 31 as he was bowled out by Hassam Mushtaq but with Wokingham in a much healthier position on 61-3. Housego then followed having contributed 28 runs with the hosts now on 72-4.
Michael Bates and Sukhmeet Kang provided another stable partnership for Wokingham to build some runs on the scoreboard and they batted their side across the century mark before the next wicket fell.

Bates went for 30 before Kang was removed on 23 with Wokingham on 131-6. With the first innings drawing to a close, Jacob Clark (26*) and Iain Muirden (15*) added some extra runs to the total as they both remained not out with Wokingham finishing their allotted overs on 176-7.
With 177 to chase, Thame Town made a brilliant start to the chase with their opening batting pair. Thame captain Michael Beard and Olliver Ebsworth-Burland batted superbly to get the visitors off to a fine start as the first wicket fell with Thames just one run shy of the century mark.
Ebsworth-Burland fell for 45 with as he was caught out by Housego, bowled by Myles but with Thame in a commanding position on 99-1.
Wokingham gained another breakthrough as Callum Russell was run out by Archie Carter after scoring a quick total of 29, but with Thame on 146-2 they were nearing the target with plenty of wickets left.
Beard’s long innings was finally put to a stop on 67 when he was bowled out by Paul Dewick with Thame on 159-3.

Wokingham picked up two more wickets as Thame closed in on victory as Mushtaq was caught out by Stuart Parsons, and Uttley gained his second wicket as he caught and bowled Will Sutcliffe.
But that would be the end of the joy for the hosts as Thame sealed the win with just over three overs remaining with a five wicket victory.
