The 2024 Wokingham Winter Carnival has been cancelled.
The annual event was due to take place on Sunday, but the threat of high winds has forced Wokingham Lions, the organisers, to make what it describes as a very difficult decision.
A spokesperson told Wokingham Today: “Safety is always our number one concern, and with the forecast showing wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, it just wouldn’t be safe.”
They added it is extremely unlikely the event will be rearranged this year, and they hope to return next year.
Wokingham Borough Council has confirmed it will no longer be providing free parking in the Rose Street, Easthampstead Road East and West, Cockpit Path, Denmark Street, Carnival multi-storey and Shute End car parks on Sunday.
It said the money for this will be used for other support for businesses.
The Lion 4/X4 bus services will be still be free on November 24 for journeys to and from Wokingham town centre.
The planned road closures in Wokingham town centre for the event willnot be in place. Roads through the town centre will be open as normal.
