CORONAVIRUS infection rates in Wokingham borough have reached an all-time high.
Yesterday, 2,021 people in the borough tested positive for Covid-19. However this is in part due to a change in the way that data is collected.
From today, one person who has had two Covid-19 infections will count as two cases not one person. As the England-wide data was reconfigured, this resulted in a large increase in the number of cases reported for Monday, January 31.
In the borough, infection rates have been climbing since mid-January. The weekly rate per 100,000 people now sits at 1,829.3.
This is also the highest in Berkshire.
In neighbouring Bracknell Forest, there were 1,583 positive cases yesterday, with an infection rate of 1,499.6. In Reading, there were 2,593 cases, and it’s weekly infection rate is 1,720.1.
In Windsor and Maidenhead, there were 1,755 positive cases yesterday, bringing its infection rate to 1,486.7.
And in Slough, there were 2,658 new cases, with a rate of infection of 1,525.6.
In West Berkshire, there were 1,372, the lowest in the county, with an infection rate of 1,175.
It comes as the country moved to “Plan A” and face masks were no longer mandatory inside shops. Home working is also no longer advised by the Government.
