Earlier today, Wokingham witnessed one of the most spectacular sunsets for years.
Coming after a day of rain and grey skies, it brightened up a miserable day.
The sky gave an amazing light show as the sun went down, and brought to mind the old adage red sky at night, shepherd’s delight.
Our photographer, Paul King, was in Wokingham to capture the moment the sky changed colour, as our picture shows.
The Met Office’s website reveals more about the strange events.
A red sky appears when dust and small particles are trapped in the atmosphere by high pressure. This scatters blue light and leaving only red light to give the sky its notable appearance.
A red sky at sunset means high pressure is moving in from the west so therefore the next day will usually be dry and pleasant.
The bad news is that the weather forecast for tomorrow is not one to delight shepherds – rain is due from 8am to 2pm, before drying out.
On Saturday – the day of Wokingham’s big firework event – heavy rain is forecast during the day, all the way through to 2pm. It means that Cantley Park, and indeed any other display, will be very muddy and wellies will be the order of the night.
