WOODLEY residents will be among those asked to pay a smaller precept in the forthcoming finanical year.
Its town council has reduced the charge that helps fund localised services by 2.8%.
Other parish and town councils are increasing theirs.
Cllr Keith Baker, the town council leader, said the decision to make a small reduction from £112.88 to £109.75 for a Band D property was due to councillors’ desire to help residents during the cost-of-living crisis.
“Conservatves have a long standing record of keeping the town council tax low,” he said. “Thanks to very careful financial planning, I am pleased to announce a reduction of 2.8% for next year.
“When you add that to the 6% reduction last year, we have reduced the tax by 8.3%”
He added that the Oakwood Centre loan would be paid off three years earlier than planned, while the amount of grants given to charities will increase by 10.7% to £38,525.
It will also give an additional £10,000 to the Wokingham Town Centre Management – increasing the grant to £25,000 – and will help fund replacement Christmas lights.
The council also have just over £1m in reserves.
