WOODLEY Town Council hosted a well-attended Annual Town Meeting on Thursday, May 22 at the Alan Cornish Theatre.
The event brought together local residents, volunteer groups, and councillors for an evening of community engagement and recognition
Opened by Town Mayor, David Bragg, the meeting provided a platform for residents to hear from and question the council, while also highlighting the work of local volunteer organisations.
This year’s spotlight was on three groups: Woodley Adopt A Street (WASP), Woodley Volunteer Centre (WVC), and The Link Visiting Scheme (LVS), each of which shared their significant contributions to the community.
Cllr Bragg praised the spirit of volunteerism, saying: “It’s truly moving to see how much time and energy our residents dedicate to helping others.
“Tonight, we celebrate the people who make Woodley a better place for everyone.”
The council also shared key updates on local initiatives, including the development of the Coronation Orchard, community events such as the upcoming Party in the Park, and strategic plans like the new Youth Services Strategy and the Woodley Cycling Network.
Future plans include an upcoming residents’ consultation on how the council’s precept should be allocated, as well as further developments at the theatre and Woodford Park Leisure Centre.
Public engagement continued during the Q&A session, where residents raised important issues ranging from leisure centre upgrades to the issues of e-scooters and cycling in the town centre.
