WORK on the Winnersh Park and Ride was stopped due to a water main, and this led to contractors submitting a compensation claim.
The car park had been extended by adding a multi-storey level. However, the site was closed as a park and ride during the covid lockdown period, as Reading Buses withdrew the services. These have not been instated.
Work on the rebuilding project was paused by the previous administration in the autumn of 2021, and Thames Water had to get involved. The delay to work recommencing led to the request for additional payment from the contractors.
Cllr Paul Fishwick, executive member for active travel and highways, said: “The scheme is now completed, but the delays meant the contractors submitted compensation claims that are being worked through with officers to try and reduce them. However, a provision of £600,000 has been included for the time being in case the Thames Water main does require diverting.”
