A wreath of white poppies will be laid at a peace vigil on Remembrance Sunday in Wokingham.
David Chapman of Wokingham, who is a Peace Pledge Union member, says everyone is welcome to attend the vigil in Howard Palmer Gardens on November 10, noon to 1pm.
“People are invited to share a poem, a reading or some prayers. They may possibly have something like a diary of a grandparent who was reflecting on war and whether it solves anything in the end.
“White poppies are a symbol of peace. The wreath will be laid against a tree and then be taken to All Saints Church’s peace garden.
“The wreath reminds us of those on all sides who have been killed or are being killed or traumatised in so many different ways by war and violence.
“It’s a time to challenge the fact that we spend so much on killing machines when we should be seeking peace in the first place by speaking to each other.”
He said those at the vigil would be thinking of all the conflicts in the world including the Middle East, Ukraine and Yemen. “The trauma on the faces of children involved is writ large,” he added.
