Reading FC tasted defeat for the first time this season as they were thumped by newly promoted Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground.

Ruben Selles once again showed faith in youth as Adrian Akande was handed a start on the right-wing following the departure of Femi Azeez earlier in the week. The bench also had a very youthful look to it.
There was a familiar face in the Wrexham dugout as Reading legend Phil Parkinson led his Wrexham side out to face the Royals, where he made more than 300 appearances for the club during his playing career.
Following an even opening 20 minutes, it was the home team who drew first blood as their persistent crosses into the box paid off.
Ollie Palmer climbed highest at the back post to nod the ball past Joel Pereria to make it 1-0.
The damage could have been worse a few minutes later had Periera not pulled off an impressive save to claw away Jack Marriott’s vicious shot which looked headed for the top corner.
Their lead was doubled 10 minutes later when the ball initially bounced off the post, Pereira then pulled off a magnificent reflex save but that wasn’t enough to prevent Elliott Lee from tucking the ball in on the rebound.
The game could have played out differently had Reading got themselves back in the contest just moments after the second Wrexham goal when Tyler Bindon found himself in the box and headed goalwards only to see his effort bounce off the crossbar.
Taking a comfortable lead into the break, Wrexham were fully in the driving seat when they added a third goal four minutes after the restart.
The pick of the goals of the afternoon came from Andy Cannon who thumped the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Reading looked a beaten side And were unable to muster any kind of comeback.
Selles’ team will be looking to bounce back next weekend when they return to home soil to host Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic, who have started the season with three wins from three.
