A WOKINGHAM rally driver has once again proved his natural flair for life behind the wheel after helping his team scoop silver in a six-hour endurance race.

Twenty-year-old Bobby Trundley was part of Team Racing With Autism (RWA) during the  Daytona Autumn Endura, held at Milton Keynes.

The team is an offshoot of Team BRIT, an all-disabled racing team that supports drivers with a range of physical and psychological challenges to access motorsport. Earlier this year, Bobby and Team BRIT founder, Dave Player, invited other young drivers with autism to form the new team.

And on Sunday, October 13, Bobby and the team came second in the six-hour endurance race, against 44 other teams.

Bobby joined 15-year-old Jack Ferguson from Ipswich, 12-year-old Sandro Ballesteros from Rochdale and 20-year-old Flashman Finneran from Cambridge.

Bobby drove in the qualifying session, taking the team to P1 in the SODI class.  Jack and Sandro then secured the fastest two laps of the race and Flashman continued the impressive pace. Bobby took the final stint in the six-hour race, finishing in an incredible P2, with the leaders only 8 seconds in front.

Out of 45 karts, the team were seventh overall.

Bobby said that hje first sat in a cadet go-kart at the age of 10 when his passion for the sport was ignited and he soon found that it helped him manage the challenges that autism brings.

He has won a number of karting titles and is the reigning Dmax champion. He has been awarded a wealth of trophies, and has taken part in charity events such as the Damon Hill Kart Challenge in aid of the Halow Project and the Back on Track Charity Kart Race.

Hey has also been awarded the Anna Kennedy OBE Autism Hero Award for outstanding achievement in sport and was awarded the ANCA World Autism Festival Excellence in Sport Award 2017.

Bobby has now won four out of his first five ever car races since his time with Team BRIT.

“It was great to get back on track with Team RWA,” he said. “Together we’re proving that autism isn’t necessarily a barrier to achieving great things.

“Jack and Sandro coped so well with challenging conditions, despite being so young, showing just what they are going to be capable of – they really stole the show!

“I’ve been really proud to be part of RWA again, and am really grateful for Team BRIT’s support in making this happen.”
