NINE gardens in Swallowfield will be opening their gates for visitors to come and take a look round.
The event will be held across the village on Sunday, June 3 in aid of National Open Gardens Scheme. Each garden offers something different to explore and are within easy distance of each other.
- Greenwings is a large garden laid mostly to lawn with number flower beds, two pond and an orchid house.
- Norkett Cottage describes itself as an artistic cottage garden with pond, greenhouse and vegetable patch. It also houses chickens and rabbits.
- Loddon Lower Farm will serve homemade teas and is a two-acre garden with some mature trees and attractive borders.
- Brambles is a large landscaped garden with cedar pavilion, herbaceous perennials, large trees and chickens.
- Bird In Hand House’s gardens are in a herbaceous style with emphasis on roses and clematis.
- Russetts is a plantswoman’s garden full of variety including perennial flower beds, vegetables and rose arbor.
- 5 Curlys Way has a contemporary design with pond area, ferns and African themed side garden.
- Lambs Farmhouse is wheelchair friendly and is on the outskirts of the village. This spacious garden has a varied mature planting in beds. Garden is now in development in the hands of new owners, assisted by a horticulturist.
- Brookside Nursery is owned by a retired nurseryman and includes large areas of wildflowers with grass walks between lovely trees, beehives, and a large pond as well as an inspirational vegetable garden.
The gardens are open from 2pm to 6pm. Entry is £6 for adults and children get in free.
