Wokingham borough council is set to agree a balanced budget that it says manages to invest in the future, and protect vital services despite historically low funding from the Government tomorrow Thursday (February 26).
The budget sets out how it will manage our money for the financial year ahead (2026/27).
It allocates resources to services such as adult social care, children’s services, waste and recycling and transport, and building projects such as new or expanded schools, roads and other facilities.
This year’s budget is being set in the face of the severest reduction in funding from central government that it has ever seen.
Next year will see the imposition of the new way of funding local councils under which Wokingham Borough will lose over £43m of Government funding during the next three years.
Despite this, the proposed budget includes spending to meet the growing needs of those adults and children who need most support, such as people with disabilities, older people and those with long-term conditions.
