AN ORGANISATION that supports people in the borough living with multiple sclerosis hopes that votes from the public will help increase its chances of winning an award.
The Berkshire MS Therapy Centre is asking people to nominate them to receive a grant from a charitable giving organisation.
Benefact Group is giving away grants of £5,000 to health charities this week as part of their Movement for Good Awards, with a total of £1million being awarded to charities for the fifth year running.
Winners will be drawn at random, so the more times the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre is nominated, the more chance it has of being selected to win a grant.
With nominations possible only until Friday, the charity is asking members of the public to support them online this week.
The Reading based centre provides a number of specialised therapies and a social space for people with MS across Berkshire and the surrounding areas.
It receives no National Health Service funding, so relies on fundraising to provide this service.
Pippa Vincent-Cooke, Centre Manager, said: “We are seeing an increase in the number of people with MS contacting us for support, and we continue to provide increasing numbers of specialised treatments, such as oxygen therapy, physiotherapy, and footcare.
“There is no cure for MS but the treatments and therapies we provide make a huge difference to the lives of people with MS and their families.
“Please nominate us to win £5,000 and help us continue our vital work, thank you.”
As well as voting themselves, people are encouraged to use their social media channels to ask friends and contacts to vote for the charity, to give them the best chance of winning.
Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, says: “Through our Movement for Good Awards special grants we’re encouraging everyone to nominate a health charity.
“Benefact Group is the third largest corporate donor in the UK and has an ambition to be the biggest. “Owned by a charity, all of its available profits go to good causes, and the more the group grows, the more it can give.
“Our Movement for Good Awards will continue to help charities change lives for the better and we know that for many health charities, £5,000 can make a real difference.”
Nominations for the group’s £5,000 grants can be made from Monday, May 15 through to Friday May 19.
