Reading FC co-owner Todd Trosclair has called for patience from supporters as the club await the club to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
In a post on social media, Mr Trosclair said that when he and fellow co-owner Rob signed paperwork to acquire the club on 9 May, they were aware of “a lot of issues” that would take time to resolve.
He said he was told to expect a difficult opening period to the campaign while the new ownership got to grips with the scale of the challenge at the Berkshire club.
Despite that, Mr Trosclair said there was confidence behind the scenes that Reading could still make progress this season.
The Royals struggled at the start of the campaign under Noel Hunt and were left with a disappointing set of results which led to his sacking in October.
Leam Richardson was appointed as his replacement and after a slow start the Royals have now started to pick up form and have gone on an impressive run of form which has seen them climb the League One table where they are now just four points outside the play-off places.
Trosclair said his co-owner, Rob Couhig, had predicted the team would be inside the top 10 by January, pointing to what he described as a loyal fanbase and a strong core of players.
Mr Trosclair also suggested the club plans to strengthen its squad during the January transfer window.
He said additional depth would be added in a bid to push for promotion, but acknowledged that supporters are still waiting to see new players arrive.
“I am patiently waiting to see what players join the club,” he said.
Reading have endured a turbulent period in recent years, including financial difficulties and points deductions, and the new ownership group has previously said stabilising the club remains a priority.
Mr Trosclair ended his message with the slogan “Football for the people”, a phrase which has been adopted by some supporters calling for greater transparency and long-term sustainability at the club.
