TO CELEBRATE an ancient woodland enjoyed by young visitors to Camp Mohawk, the charity’s gala ball organising committee has chosen Enchanged Forest as the theme for a special fundraising event they will be holding in October.
Fundraising manager for the charity Sam Rosier, said: “We are really excited about this event – we can’t wait.
“It’s our first gala ball, and we think it’s going to be very special.
“We’ve chosen Enchanted Forest as our theme to reflect the magical place that Camp Mohawk is.”
The gala ball will be taking place at a Reading hotel in October.
“We’ll be bringing the magic of the outdoors inside,” said Ms Rosier.
“It’s going to be something of a sensory experience, as we recreate an enchanted woodland indoors.”
The ball will be a black tie event, and will include a three course meal, a live band, and an auction as part of the evening’s entertainment.
All women Henley group, The Average Wife, will perform a wide ranging programme of music, including jazz and current sounds.
“They’re fantastic,” said Ms Rosier, “and one of their vocalists used to work for us, so we’re delighted they will be performing for the event.”
Instead of a raffle, in keeping with the forest theme, the charity will be installing a gift tree.
“We’ll hang envelopes from the tree, for £10, £20, £50, and £100,” continued Ms Rosier, and inside each will be a prize.
“We’ve been given some brilliant gifts: for example, a £50 envelope could contain an afternoon tea for two, and a £100 one might reveal a hotel stay in a nice restaurant.
“Our fantastic organising committee includes a couple of members of Wokingham Lions Club, and Camp Mohawk trustees and employees.
“We’re all working hard to make this event really special.
“I can promise a few surprises on the evening.”
Camp Mohawk provides stimulating workshops, with sensory and social activities for children and young people with special needs.
The centre enjoys both indoor and outdoor facilities where children and their families can come to relax, play, develop social skills and build self-confidence within a positive environment.
The organisation is keen to attract sponsors, supporters, and friends for their forthcoming gala ball, which will take place at the Hilton Hotel, Reading, on Saturday, October 12, from 7pm until 1am.
Individual tickets for the event cost £65, with a table of 10 diners costing £600.
