IT WAS all fringed cocktail dresses, long stringed pearls, and sequins for 10 members of the Inner Wheel Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh when they travelled to Manchester for the organisation’s 19th International Inner Wheel Convention.
They joined more than 2,000 international representatives to celebrate 100 years of the organisation, at the four day meeting which included a gala event and an opportunity to dress up in period cocktail dresses.
Sheila Thorpe, the group’s Inner Wheel Maiden Erlegh Club correspondent, said: “Discussions were followed by evening entertainment, with most of the 2,500 ladies dressing up for the gala dinner in 1920s costumes.
“The gathering takes place every three years, somewhere in the world.
“This year, because the Inner Wheel organisation began here in the UK in 1924, 100 years ago, the event took place in Manchester.”
The Inner Wheel is one of the largest organisations for women, with more than 100,000 members in more than 103 countries.
Membership has been open to all women since April 2012.
Reading Maiden Erlegh group meets at Sonning Golf Club on the third Thursday evening of every month.
They welcome new members to join in the fun, take part in activities, raise funds for charity and support the local community.
