THERE has been a Dalek invasion of Wokingham, but there is no need to go hiding behind the sofa … you can bid on it instead.
Martin & Pole’s auction house in Milton Road is preparing for an out of this world sale of Doctor Who memorabilia, spanning all six decades of the popular sci-fi programme.
Items for sale include rare toys and books, including a hardback copy of the first edition of the very first Doctor Who novel, published in 1964, two copies of the first Doctor Who annual from 1965, and an assortment of hard-to-buy copies of the official magazine.
There are also a range of Daleks in all shapes and sizes, including remote controlled options and a board game dating back to the 1970s.
Some of the toys have been unopened, including some rare merchandise from the 40th anniversary in 2003. There are also ties, hats, badges, belt buckles, videos, DVDs and old copies of the Radio Times.
Add in two exceptionally rare collectable plates, some signed photos, clocks and a whole shelf full of police boxes – Doctor Who’s time and space machine – and buyers will need a home that is bigger on the inside to store it all in.
Mark Weekly, a valuer for Martin & Pole, is looking forward to bringing the collection to its auction on Thursday, July 11, from 10am. Also in the sale will be a collection of antique and modern furniture, ceramics and glass, art, watches, silver and jewellery.
“It is a private collection from a family. The father was a collector from the show’s early days, and his daughter then got into the show, and they collected together.
“They decided they would like someone else to enjoy it.”
He said the collection would be divided into smaller lots, with starting prices kept competitive.
