Finchampstead and Barkham Relief in Sickness fund has received a £3,000 donation from David Wilson Homes, to continue its work providing grants for people in need in the local community.
The charity, which was launched in 1972, provides relief for residents of the parishes of Finchampstead and Barkham who are elderly, sick, recovering from illness, or are disabled.
The charity purchases goods and services on behalf those who apply for support, including electrical goods, clothing, travel expenses, medical equipment and nursing fees.
The donation from David Wilson Homes will be used to support a range of families, and has already been used to purchase essential household white goods for a local family as they move into permanent accommodation.
Run by five trustees, the small charity recently formed a working relationship with Wokingham United Charities to identify even more suitable candidates for its grants.
The donation comes from The Barratt Foundation’s Community Fund, the housebuilder’s charity partnership, which supports children, young people and disadvantaged groups wherever Barratt Developments PLC, of which David Wilson Homes is a part of, operates across the UK.
Steve Bromley, trustee at Finchampstead and Barkham Relief in Sickness Fund,
said: “The grants we provide are often an essential lifeline for local people facing challenging financial circumstances.
“In the last 12 months, we have faced increased demand due to the cost-of-living crisis and as a small charity with limited resources, this generous donation from David Wilson Homes will make a significant difference to those we are able to support.”
Alex Dowling, sales and marketing director at Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties, said: “Finchampstead and Barkham Relief in Sickness Fund is a fantastic example of a charity that is working directly with families in the community that require a helping hand.
“We are proud to support its activity with this donation and look forward to hearing how it is used across Finchampstead and Barkham.”
