Reading FC boss Ruben Selles ‘frontrunner’ for vacant Hull City job

Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has become the new frontrunner for the vacant Hull City manager’s job.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the two clubs are ‘expected’ to open talks over a deal.

The Royals boss has done an exceptional job in trying circumstances with the club in the midst of a financial crisis with current owner Dai Yongge.

It has now been more than a year since the club was officially put up for sale, but no deal is close to being agreed with the club having suffered numerous points deductions and sanctions under Yongge’s ownership.

Selles joined the Royals last summer following a short stint in interim charge with Premier League Southampton.

Selles led Reading to survival last season and finished in 17th place on 53 points.

Reading have made significant progress this campaign under Selles’ coaching and are currently in 6th position in League One having amassed 30 points from 17 matches.

Selles is currently the odds-on favourite with several betting companies to become Hull City’s next manager, with odds as short as 1/4.

Following last night’s win over Cambridge United, Selles was asked about the rumours of taking over at Hull.

He said: “We talked about speculation a couple of months ago with another club ion the Championship.

Literally the last 24 hoursI have been fully focused on the team.

“If there is something it is always my agent and I don’t want to know anything, especially when we have a game like today.

“I am happy here giving everything for this club.. I am enjoying this group of players, and the things have done, are doing and hopefully do.”

The Tigers are currently in 22nd place in the Championship on 15 points from 18 games and sacked previous boss Tim Walter last month.
