‘No matter how old we get, the end of August, and the beginning of September always has that ‘back-to-school’ feel about it.
If I were feeling whimsical, it’s as though I can smell the change in the air, though it may of course just be the aroma of new school pencils, shoes and bags…
Change is the theme for the churches of St Paul’s, St Nicholas and Woosehill this week too.
At St Paul’s, Sam Tanna-Korn is about to become the new rector, and at Woosehill I am about to become the new associate minister.
It’s all quite exciting and the timing feels very appropriate with it marking the end of the summer holidays and the start of something new and fresh.
Sadly, new vicars do not get new school shoes and lunchboxes though!
When priests are ordained in the Church of England, one of the questions the Bishops asks us is: ‘Will you work with your fellow servants in the gospel for the sake of the kingdom of God?’
To which the answer is: ‘By the help of God, I will.’
I cannot wait to fulfil this promise at Woosehill Church, and I know that Father Sam will feel likewise.
Being a parish priest is an unbelievable joy and privilege, getting to show and share the love of God, and having the honour of being with people through every part of life – be that happiness, grief, celebration and everything in-between.
Whatever September brings for you, may you know God’s loving presence with you always.’
Cara Smart is soon to be Woosehill Church’s new associate minister.
Sunday services are at 10am.
