THE GOVERNMENT has announced its new Warm Homes Plan.
The £15 billion programme is designed to help cut energy bills and make homes more comfortable across the UK.
Many homes locally lose heat quickly because of older insulation or ageing heating systems.
That means higher bills and colder winters than necessary, something the Warm Homes Plan is designed to change.
Under the plan, low‑income households may be eligible for free home energy upgrades, which could include insulation, solar panels or even a heat pump, depending on what suits the property.
The plan also includes upcoming low or zero‑interest loans to help pay for improvements such as solar panels, batteries and heat pumps.
Details on how to apply will be released later this year.
Renters also benefit.
Private landlords will be required to meet new minimum energy‑efficiency standards by 2030, helping to ensure more homes are safe, warm and affordable to heat.
The Government has not yet opened a central sign‑up or application service.
Until it does, the most helpful place to begin is the Energy Saving Trust, which offers clear and trusted advice on what upgrades might work for homes and what to consider before applying.
Wokingham Borough Council says it will share updates in Environment News as soon as new information becomes available.
