WEEKEND PREVIEW: Huge clash for Woodley, Bees face the Phantoms

WOODLEY UNITED host Penn and Tylers Green in a blockbuster Hellenic Division One East clash tomorrow.

United bounced back from their first defeat of the season against Wokingham and Emmbrook with a 4-1 cup success against Finchampstead last weekend.

And now Michael Herbert’s men return to league action with a game against unbeaten leaders Penn and Tylers Green at Rivermoor on Saturday (3pm).

Meanwhile, SUMAS will look to heap more misery on Wantage Town Reserves tomorrow when they travel to face the basement club.

Clive McNelly’s charges were beaten by Penn and Tylers 4-2 last weekend but have showed good signs of recovery from a poor start to the campaign and will go into tomorrow’s game as favourites against a side with no points so far.

FINCHAMPSTEAD are at home, looking to push up the table after a run of four defeats from five in all competitions.

The Moles lost 4-0 at Highworth Town last weekend to extend the winless league run to eight and it will be another tough assignment when they travel to face the title challengers.

EVERSLEY AND CALIFORNIA also have a hard away trip tomorrow, going to leaders Bagshot in the Combined Counties League.

In rugby, REDINGENSIANS will look to bounce back from a first defeat in seven when they travel to Clifton tomorrow.

The Rams suffered a narrow 27-31 home loss to Canterbury last time out but have been in a strong run and will fancy their chances against 10th placed Clifton.

BRACKNELL host Camborne while CROWTHORNE will welcome Drifters on Saturday and on Sunday, LONDON IRISH will aim for a 10th straight league win when Jersey Reds come to Madejski Stadium.

Lukas Smital is confident his BRACKNELL BEES side can produce a second good weekend in a row when they host Peterborough Phantoms before going to Guildford Flames on Sunday.

Bees enjoyed a win over Sheffield Steeldogs last Saturday before drawing with Guildford at The Hive and Smital says the club are “building a good base” after some difficult years.

“We are building a good base and try to repair all the damage from the last year, or last three years really and bring it back where it’s meant to be,” said Smital.

“We just focus game by game.

“We are going to put the same effort in, try to play the same way and be disciplined and if we do that, I believe we can get results this weekend.”

SONNING and SOUTH BERKSHIRE have a full complement of sides out in the MBBO and Trysports leagues again while READING ROCKETS face Lancashire and Bohunt School.
