James Bird gave the perfect response to dropping down to the Wokingham second team but hitting 152 against High Wycombe 2s.

Bird has spent the whole season playing in the Home Counties league for the Oaks first team, but was dropped after scoring just one run in his previous two outings.

But he shone in Thames Valley Division 2b, putting on an astonishing opening stand of 260 with fellow opener Salman Khalid, who scored 130.

Dan Lincoln hit 17 boundaries for Finch

Despite that, Wokingham lost after High Wycombe chased down 333 to win.

Three men were sandwiched in between the two in the honours board in Finchampstead captain Dan Lincoln who scored 132 while Wargrave 2s’ Hareesh Reddy hit 134 and Binfield’s Alex Morgan closed on 131 not out.

Asim Hussain took seven wickets for Finchampstead 2s in a draw with Wargrave. They came at a cost with figures of 7-123 off 19 overs.
