A LORRY blocked the railway line by Wokingham Station earlier this evening causing delays to the railways – and even those journeys have been delayed due to the heat.
The vehicle was stuck on the level crossing opposite The Station Tap pub. It has since been taken off the tracks, but services are still delayed.

South Western Railway warned that services are running around 15 minutes behind schedule and that commuters will face longer journeys as a result of the heat: a track circuit failure between Vauxhall and London Waterloo trains meant that trains had to run at reduced speed on some lines towards Waterloo.
Disruption includes:
- Trains from Guildford to Waterloo via Oxshott will not stop between Surbiton and Waterloo.
- Trains that start from Woking towards Waterloo will not stop between Surbiton and Waterloo.
- Trains from Shepperton to Waterloo will go via Richmond.
South Western Railway note: on warm days, in direct sunshine, rails can be as much as 20ºC above air temperature. As rails are made out of steel, they expand as they heat up and are subject to strong compression.
They advise passengers to:
- Carry water with you
- Do not board a train service if you feel unwell
- If you are travelling and feel unwell please get off at the next stop and seek help from our staff
- Avoid pulling the passenger alarm between station, as help can be more easily obtained with the train in a platform and not standing stationary on a railway line.
