Scaffolding collapsed in Reading town centre today leaving firefighters and sniffer dogs to hunt for people potentially trapped underneath.
The Garrard Street structure fell down at approximately 11:15am, injuring at least two people.
South Central Ambulance Service said they suffered from chest pains and a head wound but no life-threatening injuries.
Formerly known as the Friars Walk shopping centre, the derelict building was in the process of being demolished as part of a £500m housing and retail development at Station Hill.
Thames Valley Police temporarily closed the NCP car park, but there are no immediate concerns about the building itself.
Reading Council tweeted: “Greyfriars Road is closed to all vehicles and pedestrians. Members of the public will be allowed to leave the cordon but not allowed to return. Please avoid this area.”
Garrard Street is also closed in both directions.
