WOKINGHAM Borough Council staff have access to a range of welfare support, including mental health first aid – but not everything is available to councillors.
Independent councillor Gary Cowan wanted to know what services were available to staff and elected members.
The leader of the council, Cllr Clive Jones, outlined the options, which included helping guiding staff to appropriate professional support. He then said the possibility of extending such support to councillors would be something that could be considered as part of a review of the council constitution.
“Councillors need to be supported and they should be treated the same as officers,” he added.
