NEVER let it be said we don’t take our music seriously.

In preparation for this week’s RaW Sounds Today playlist, we went to Southampton to watch a band playing in Reading. We couldn’t make the local date, so the road trip was made – and boy, was it worth it.

UK Subs head up our hit parade this week with Tomorrow’s Girls, but there are other treats to enjoy to. A Gold standard week, if you will.

As ever, tune in to our FREE Spotify playlist. Simply head to https://bit.ly/rawsoundstoday and enjoy the music.

There is also a Facebook page and group chat that bands and music fans can tap into. You can search for RaW Sounds Today and it will come up.

UK Subs – Tomorrow’s Girls

Charlie Harper has been vocalist with the UK Subs for well over 40 years but sadly the UK Subs are in the midst of their farewell tour.

We couldn’t make the Sub 89 Reading show so popped along to the 1865 in Southampton and it was a brilliant night. There was a party-like atmosphere and Charlie was clearly having a good time. No hiding backstage for him.

He was out mingling with the crowd before the band’s set with a big smile on his face as was support artist, the brilliant TV Smith from The Adverts.

Charlie even popped to the front to watch opening act, The Mistakes. When the UK Subs hit the stage the party really kicked off as the crowd danced, moshed and sang along to those punk classics performed by a band that still had incredible energy and passion.

There’s still a chance to catch them on the remaining dates of the tour but better be quick!– https://uksubs.co.uk

Rila’s Edge – Gold

It’s another new single, released recently, by this band from the local area but do we have to include every one of their releases in our playlist and feature?

When they are as good as this, yes we do – https://www.rilasedge.com/

Kristin Hersh – Constance Street

As well as being a member of the renowned Throwing Muses, Kristin creates music as a solo artist and her latest album Clear Pond Road, from which this song is taken, is a great example. It’s a wonderful intimate and personal album and if you’ve been lucky enough to get a ticket to her sold-out Reading South Steet Arts Centre show on October 5, you are going to have a memorable evening – https://www.kristinhersh.com/

Lilac – Touch

It’s been a while since the brilliant Losing Myself (In You) single from Lilac which made our top 20 of 2022. However, it was worth waiting for more of their excellent floral indie sound with this new single – https://lilacband.co.uk/

AlphaLine – Paper Cups

They performed a great set at Wokingham Festival and have just released their debut EP, Polarity, from which this track is taken.

It’s produced by Aaron Cilia and showcases the band’s intriguing sound – https://www.alphalineband.com/

Danny Lampo – Puutu

Danny is a skilled footballer with the Reading Tigers and also a talented musician creating music with an afrobeats dancehall influence such as this new single, which also features guest musician, Article Wan – https://www.dannylampo.com/

Selina and the Howlin Dogs – Midnight Man

Here’s a song from the new album, ’Biscuit City’ by those wonderful local blues rockers – https://www.selinaandthehowlindogs.com/

Art Themen – The Night Has A Thousand Eyes

Here’s the brilliant jazz saxophonist who will be at Wokingham’s Whitty Theatre on Sept 29th in aid of Wokingham in Need. This is from the album Art released with Dave Barry – https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/wokinghaminneed/

Who Ate All The Crayons – Deep Blue Delivery

Here’s a song from the brand new ‘Deep Blue’ EP by this band who create wonderful indie pop – https://linktr.ee/whoateallthecrayons

Jopy – Ka Ka Killer

Jopy has been playing gigs in the local area with excellent and exciting live performances. Here’s a single from earlier this year – https://www.facebook.com/jopymusic
