A CHOIR spread the hope of new beginnings with its latest performance which attracted a large audience.
Twyford Singers’ concert at St Mary’s Church, Wargrave, on Palm Sunday (March 29) had an invitation for its listeners.
It was suggested the performance was a chance to ‘sit, listen and reflect on new beginnings of all varieties’.
Hope, joy and optimism were themes throughout.
Composer John Rutter’s setting of All Things Bright and Beautiful was a joyous start.
Rutter’s The Lord Bless You and Keep You, a beautiful, simple song of benediction, gave the concert a moving conclusion.
Pieces from Handel’s Messiah included a stirring performance of the Hallelujah Chorus.
The choir’s musical director, Helen Styles, did great work leading the choir.
Her singing of I know My Redeemer Liveth from the Messiah was superb.
Solos from Haydn’s glorious Creation and as part of a hymn were sung by members of the choir.
Talented organist Robert Jones accompanied the choir and performed organ solos.
Two pieces written for the choir’s 60th birthday composition competition in 2022, Alison Willis’s beautiful A New Day Dawning and Martin Hindmarsh’s Psalm 150 song of praise, were well received.
The choir restarts their practices on April 14, from 7.45 to 9.45pm at St Marys Church, Twyford.
The choir welcomes new singers of any level of experience.
