ADULT education courses can help people advance their skills, or brush up on those they already have.
Wokingham Borough Council offers a range of courses to suit learners, including:
Build your confidence to get into work or volunteering; Design and format a CV using Word; Money Matters (UK taxation, pensions and budgeting skills); Maths for the Workplace; Excel for Beginners; Word for Work; Social Media for Job Searching; Introduction to being a Teaching Assistant and Working in Schools; and Introduction to Working in Care or the NHS.
Courses for parents and carers keen to support their children’s learning, include:
Terrific Timestables; Fun with Time; Introduction to Reception and KS1 Phonics, Reading, Writing and Spelling; Help your Child with Maths; Introduction to Reception and KS1 Maths; Introduction to KS2 Maths; Building Resilience in your Child; and Understanding Teenage Anxiety.
To be eligible for Adult Education courses, people need to live or work within the Wokingham Borough, or have a child attending a Wokingham school.
Learners must be over 19 years old on August 31 2024, and be a UK or Irish citizen or a non-UK national with permission to live in the UK and have ordinarily been resident in the UK for at least 3 years.
All Ukrainian adults and their family members supported through the Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme are immediately eligible for courses, and are exempt from the three year residency requirement.
Learners with a British National(Overseas) visa are eligible to apply for Community Learning courses immediately.
There are a number of other exemptions including those for some asylum seekers or refugees.
Some courses are free, and those courses that do have a cost are free for anyone receiving Universal Credit (work related), Employment Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, or are on low income (under £22,000).
