ANGRY motorists have hit out following a series of mindless attacks on cars caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.
This week, The Wokingham Paper has received a number of emails and calls from readers after vandals struck last weekend at a number of locations, continuing the theme of ongoing petty vandalism and anti-social behaviour that has blighted the borough since Christmas.
One London Road resident said her company car was badly keyed – where someone causes a scratch along a car’s body – sometime last Friday night.
“I parked outside the house at 6pm and the following morning I went to my car at 8am and was horrified to find some very large scratches over three panels,” the resident – who didn’t want to be named – said.
“It looks awful and you can’t help notice it. I haven’t told my boss yet but the car will need to go for a complete respray so I hope I can get a replacement as I need it for work.”
Another female reader said she was “sickened” when she saw scratches on her car.
“It makes you wonder what sort of person does this,” she fumed.
“It’s just mindless vandalism.
“I wonder if someone was drunk and decided to go on a spree or if they are just out to make life miserable for others.
“I can’t afford to get my car resprayed and I don’t want to claim on the insurance, so I’ll have to drive around with those scratches on the side.
“People will probably think I’m a careless driver but I’m not.”
A third woman said she was furious when her car was also vandalised.
“I woke to find out car and windows had been smeared with some sort of takeaway curry,” she told us.
And there have been more reports on social media: some residents have had their wing mirrors smashed.
Thames Valley Police were contacted for a comment.
