AN award-winning Twyford bakery has scooped another accolade in a competition it never even entered.
The Rural Pie Co, run by husband-and-wife team Amy and Philip Smith, has been named Artisan Sweet & Savoury Pie Company of the Year in the Greater London Enterprise Awards.
While the couple were delighted with the prize Phil said it had come completely out of the blue.
“The first we knew was when we received an email telling us we had won,” he explained.
“We didn’t enter but it seems someone nominated us then the judges look at all the nominations and a final decision is made.
“We are always grateful when we win something because it reflects what we are doing. We’d like to thank whoever nominated us.”
The Greater London Enterprise Awards are run by the business and trade magazine, SME. They are given solely on merit, ingenuity, and hard work, distinguishing the winners from their competitors.
Alongside nominations and submissions, SME uses its own in-house research team to source, analyse and reward businesses that it believes award to be congratulated.
There is no presentation ceremony, but the prestigious award comes with a trophy and certificate as well as extensive media coverage across the greater London area – and in Wokingham Today, of course.
In recent years, the Rural Pie Co has picked up many awards. In September 2021 it lifted a handful of prizes at last week’s British Pie Awards.
The following year it was named the Artisan Pie Company of the Year in the United Kingdom at the Prestige Awards for 2021/22 then earlier this year, Rural Pie Co scooped honours in six categories at The British Pie Awards for the fourth year in a row.
